I love this book! It is the first one I have found to have recipes that are low in both sugar AND fat that truly taste delicious.
The recipes I have made – Breakfast Cheesecake, Three Bean Salad and Sweet and Sour Chicken were all easy to make, with clear instructions and easy to find ingredients.
As I’m sitting here writing this review I’m sipping a delicious beverage that cannot stop drinking. Absolutely fabulous stuff! Made from roasted soya that you brew like coffee. My doctor said my cholesterol dropped 30 points thanks to this. Look for it online at http://www.s oycoffee.com. As for the book, it’s pure pleasure reading with health and taste.

I bought this book because my husband is diabetic and Splenda is the most natural-tasting artificial sweetener. It appears to have been published in great haste in order to jump on the low-carb bandwagon. I returned it because it’s full of errors. There are mispellings (2 on one page, one on another), nutrition information is figured wrong (a sample meal of pancakes with 3 pats of butter had zero grams of fat) and the first recipe –which I wanted to try–has no ingredients! I found these and other mistakes in just the first 30 or 40 pages. Nutrition info is very important to me and I don’t feel I can overlook these errors. I can’t trust what’s in the rest of the book. I was really disappointed and returned the book to the store. I was also disappointed to hear that, because it wasn’t a production error such as missing pages, they were just going to resell it! Don’t buy this book–unless you don’t mind taking a lot of chances when you cook.

I love this book! As a health professional who has tried Atkins -only to discover I could actually live on the South Beach program – I can tell you this is one fantastic cookbook. First of all the recipes are truly healthy because they are low in fat as well as sugar. Second, the refined carb has been slashed with the use of splenda. In fact, the great assortment of popular beverages, salads, vegetables, entrees and condiments (and some of the desserts) she includes would easily work even on Atkins. What I love is that the recipes NEVER SACRIFICE TASTE – even if it means using a little white flour for a REAL cake or a teaspoon or two of powdered sugar to dust the incredible Chocolate Cherry Muffins. The truth is with the sugar taken out and the fat reduced, these recipes can truly be enjoyed by most everyone – including diabetics, those on weight loss diets (she includes WW points), and anyone looking to cut the “bad” carbs.
Last, I found her nutrition information (she is a registered dietitian) as well as cooking and baking tips to both informative and useful. All in all a fantastic book with great tasting food!
PS It has lots of terrific sounding holiday recipes…

This book has a good variety of recipes and is well organized. I also have another book using Splenda which is written by the same author. She covers the benefits of using Splenda very well. It’s a great way to get rid of the empty calories in sugar without sacrificing sweet taste.
